Mouth guard

Bruxism is a disorder characterized by the grinding or clenching of teeth. It is an involuntary action, observed mostly at night but also during the daytime. Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) refers to pain in the temporomandibular joint, which is the join holding the upper and lower jaw together. These disorders can lead to joint pain and discomfort as well as tooth wear or chipping of the teeth. Pain in the TMJ is often caused by bruxism A night guard is recommended to prevent the consequences of bruxism including grinding and clenching. The night guard is effective in stopping tooth wear and chipping when a patient grinds or clenches their teeth. A night guard is also effective for relieving and preventing pain associated with the temporomandibular (jaw) joint (TMJ). The jaw and its supporting muscles often hurt when suffering from bruxism.

The night guard is available in several designs. Depending on the grinding/clenching habits of the patient, Dr Board will prescribe the best option. The design can also include an orthodontic retainer element, making it a night guard and retainer in one. The sports mouth guard is specially designed to absorb shock during contact sports. It is made from a durable, biocompatible soft acrylic. It can be made in any colour or combination of colours.
